Reasons why the Giant Panda is threatend

The population boom along with increased pollution that occurred in China after 1949 created great stress on the pandas' habitat.

Today large-scale building projects, destructive development, mining operations and mass tourism have all led to the further widespread loss, degradation and fragmentation of the giant panda’s habitat.  These problems, combined with the impacts of climate change and natural disasters such as the catastrophic May 2008 Sichuan earthquake, mean the wild panda populations are in trouble.
